CFMOTO 1000MT-X (2026) was introduced first online, then at EICMA 2025. It might become a significant motorcycle, in a significant segment.
The bias or scepticism when it comes to Chinese motorcycles has faded considerably in the past years. They have proven to be both reliable and well priced. And CFMOTO is no newbie company. Established in 1989, KTM partner for a decade, later also a Yamaha partner.
1000MT-X, a sweet spot?
The trend, or rather my interpretation of the trend concerning adventure motorcycles, is that the medium segment is a “battle ground” of the future. From the smaller medium to the larger medium sized bikes. A range that traditionally has been occupied by Honda, Yamaha, BMW and KTM.
This motorcycle could very well be setting a new standard in the segment. Sitting right below the larger capacity range, it will be challenging bikes like KTM 890 Adventure, Honda Africa Twin CRF1100, Triumph Tiger 900 Rally (Pro), and BMW 900 GS, to mention a few.
Technical specifications: see bottom of this page.
The price of the 1000MT-X was expected to be competitive. And from what I’ve seen, this is true. Prices and equipment are important buyer signals.
Decided to go all in and made pricing comparison tables you can find at the bottom of this page.
The 1000MT-X motorcycle comes in two colours and two heights. Which probably is a smart move, as adventure bikes tend to be a bit on the high side for some riders. It likely will come with a lot of extras as standard, such as quick shifter and a luggage rack. The showcased bike at EICMA also had a complete luggage solution from, think it was GIVI.
Finding information about the bike
If you, like me, have searched wide and deep for information, you have of course noticed the usual amount of AI crap. Fake posts, fake videos and fake claims. It is more than a bit annoying, and crap is the first to surface it seems. On Youtube especially.
Some try to make it look as if the bike has been shipped and tested.
From what I can gather the motorcycle will hit showroom floors in many countries during winter or early spring 2026. I’d expect the first real reviews or impressions to emerge in February/March. The rest or what there is, at the time of writing these many words, is basically crap. See past it would be my advice.
The engine of the motorcycle is the 946.2 cc KTM LC8, similar to the one used in KTM’s 990 Duke. That KTM is not the first out with a new 990 Adventure is interesting, but likely comes as a result of financial constraints and priorities. That they let their partner be the first could also have strategic reasons.
What about reliability?
It would be pure speculation to form any opinion about this. However, it is an inescapable fact that all major Chinese manufacturers have made giant steps forwards when it comes to design, design specifications, performance, weight and reliability. CFMOTO is one of those brands. Any other claim would be completely unfounded.
I know a guy who goes to Spain during winter. Among other activities to ride motorcycles offroad and on-road. He rents bikes from a company he knows very well. They changed all their bikes for rent to CFMOTOs, specifically the (IBEX) 450.
That proved to be a smart choice. None of the bikes have failed, rather they’ve proven to be both solid and reliable.
The 1000MT-X is an important motorcycle for CFMOTO. Too important for quality compromises. And if one looks at technical specifications, and suppliers of various components, this become rather evident. I would not be concerned, or not more concerned than I would be about any brand today.
Lets face it, all manufacturers have production in China, Malaysia, Thailand or other low cost countries. If you don’t do that, or have reliable partners, you simply will not survive.

Pricing comparison vs competitors
Before you get into prices; direct MSRP comparisons can be misleading without considering standard equipment. Some manufacturers deliberately keep base prices low, by offering many features as paid options. This approach is commonly seen with brands such as BMW, Honda, and KTM.
Others include a substantial amount of equipment as standard. Models such as the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition, come factory-equipped with items that are optional or unavailable on competing models. A similar approach is taken by Triumph with the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. The model includes a high level of standard adventure-focused equipment.
For CFMOTO, if one looks at the 800MT-X model, they seem to follow Triumph when it comes to package offerings. I personally like that. One doesn’t have to go through a large spreadsheet of options that jacks up the price further.
As a result, the rankings below reflect base MSRPs, not fully equivalent real-world configurations.

Additional note
Prices shown are manufacturer list or “from” prices for model years 2025/2026 where published in the UK. CFMOTO 1000MT-X pricing for the UK is not yet officially released (per date), so the figure shown is an estimate based on comparable EU pricing and typical regional positioning.
I think though, if one looks at the comparative prices in EU, that the 1000MT-X will place itself on top, as the most affordable motorcycle in the comparison chart.

Comparison 1000MT-X vs 800 MT-X
As many of you already have seen and/or guessed, the similarities between the 2026 800MT-X and its new larger brother, are both many and, to some extent, striking. So I thought it useful to include a comparison between the two models.
I won’t go into price differences here, since that’s slightly off-topic. A quick check indicate the price difference between the two bikes might quickly amount up to EUR ~2.500 – 3.000.
